It all started in 1968 with a springer spaniel named Tinker Bell. My parents purchased Tinker from a breeder in New York and they were hooked on the idea of breeding and showing springers. Traveling to shows on the weekend became our family hobby. I was active not only in junior showmanship, but in the breed ring as well.
My parents had a small breeding program under the Croft Harbor prefix. They bred several champions during a time when the breed was filled with top kennels and breeders of a much larger scale. Needless to say, as a kid, showing in the ring with some of the best professional handlers in the country, I learned about competition, grooming, and many tricks and tools to become better at the craft.
I showed my first springer in 1970, winning a large junior handling class at a local match show, and I was hooked. There are so many highlights over the years, placing 2nd in a large bred by exhibitor class at the national specialty, taking a veteran that had not been shown in several years to Best of Opposite Sex, over (at the time) the top ranked female in the country, winning best junior handler honors at the American Spaniel Club, and making so many lifelong friends in the sport.
As a child, I traveled on occasion to shows with Lisa and Jerry Weiss of Lobuff Labradors. I saw their dogs, the loyal, sweet temperament of the lab and knew that one day I would want one. When I started my own family, in the mid 1990’s, I purchase my first Labrador retriever. Since then, I have had Labradors who are loving pets and companions, and have been active in confirmation dog shows, traveling throughout the country to attend Labrador specialty shows.
The dogs are an important part of my family and my life. Welcome to Tumblehome Labradors. We are glad you are here.
